The active ingredient in Wegovy is semaglutide, a synthetic version of the naturally occurring hormone GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). Semaglutide works by binding to GLP-1 receptors, which leads to increased insulin secretion in response to elevated blood glucose, decreased glucagon release, and slowed gastric emptying. These effects contribute to reduced appetite and better blood sugar regulation.

Semaglutide has been studied extensively for its effectiveness in weight management and type 2 diabetes. While it has shown promising results, ongoing studies continue to clarify its long-term safety profile and full range of benefits.

semaglutide is given as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection. The injection sites recommended are the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, and patients should rotate these sites to minimize injection site reactions. The medication pen should be stored refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C and protected from freezing. Prior to injection, the pen should be allowed to reach room temperature (approximately 30 minutes) to ease the injection process. You can keep the pen for 6 weeks when stored at a temperature below 30°C or in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) away from cooling element. Do not use this medicine if you notice that the solution is not clear and colourless. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.

Treatment with semaglutide typically begins with a low dose, which is gradually increased every four weeks to help the body adjust and reduce side effects. Patients must carefully follow the dosing schedule and instructions provided by their healthcare provider. Proper injection technique and safe disposal of needles are important for safety.

semaglutide should be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to maximize its benefits. Patients are advised not to skip doses but to consult their healthcare provider if a dose is missed or if they have any concerns regarding administration.

The active substance is semaglutide. – The other ingredients are disodium phosphate dihydrate, propylene glycol,

Besides the active ingredient, semaglutide contains various excipients and preservatives that support the medication's stability and usability. These ingredients help maintain the medication’s safety profile during storage and administration. Patients should always check for potential allergies to any component before using the medication.

Wegovy is prescribed primarily for adults with obesity or overweight conditions who have at least one weight-related health problem such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. It is intended to support weight loss as part of a comprehensive lifestyle program including diet and exercise.

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, and dizziness. Most side effects are mild to moderate and tend to decrease over time as the patient’s body adjusts to the medication. Maintaining adequate hydration can help alleviate some gastrointestinal symptoms.

Patients should discuss their personal and family medical history with their healthcare provider before starting Wegovy. Regular follow-ups and monitoring help ensure safe use and identify any adverse effects early.
